you have to be carefull with the volume out of the Roland, start with it all the way down and very slowly turn it up tilll you get good levels on your track without going into the red. I recently purchased an M-Audio Fast Track USB for my new laptop since the onboard card (Realtek AC97) wasn't working for audio recording. If you want to record stereo AUDIO from your keyboard, you should have gotten the Fasttrack PRO or other similar device that has stereo inputs available. you can press the MONO/STEREO button on the fasttrack to make the TWO inputs come out as stereo, but if you connect your keyboard up to the LINE/INSTR input, you're only going to get MONO (left channel from the keyboard). The fasttrack does not have a stereo input, it only has a LINE/INSTR input and a MIC input.

If that's not what you're doing and you simply misspoke, then let's discuss your set up on the fasttrack: you can CONVERT MIDI tracks to AUDIO using a softsynth, or you can use a MIDI track to send to your keyboard and record the AUDIO that comes out of the hardware synth back into an AUDIO track. you can't record MIDI on an AUDIO track and you can't record AUDIO on a MIDI track.
